Happy Days
When teaching in special education it's sometimes difficult to see frequent gains in our students. However, it's a great enjoyment to see positive gains in my students. Right out of college I received intensive training of a system for teaching students with a reading disabilities (Orton-Gillingham). This training has made a HUGE difference in my classroom. I am able to teach my struggling readers how to read.
There was one boy in particular that made me appreciate my job and all my hard work. This student is a fifth grader who has been reading at the pre-K level since the beginning of his education. With intense lessons one-on-one with me...he is now reading at a 2nd grade level. I never gave up on him.
